Opal Networks is the wholesale division of Opal Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of the
Carphone Warehouse group plc (CPW). Established as a leading voice carrier since 1995,
Opal has seen tremendous growth over the last ten years, and now switches in excess of 2
billion minutes of traffic per month, and generates revenues in excess of £750m.
Building and maintaining a network to accommodate this level of growth efficiently is a great achievement, and with Ofcom making Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) a key element in its Strategic Review of Telecommunications in 2005, developing a Next Generation Network (NGN) through LLU, is a golden opportunity for Carphone Warehouse (CPW)
In November 2005, CPW announced its £100 million investment into Opal Networks to develop the group’s Next Generation Network strategy.
